Someone's posted some interesting stuff on Youtube, including footage showing the original opening crawl for Star Wars.

Meanwhile I've encountered some fascinating (if self-embarrassing) examples about the way the brain parses words, and the possibility of a Freudian slip in an attempt at phonetic spelling. Sadly the mailing list thread wherein this happened has been killed by the moderators before I could expund upon them. Ah well, at least the mod will at least (hopefully) get to see the replies before they're consigned to the great unknown (ah, the disadvantages of operating in different time zones 8(...)

I KNEW those words had changed! I kept thinking they had but it had been so long... Go me! I can still remember being so awed when that second ship came across the screen at how big it looked. Its so hard to portray what it was like at the time. There had been no sci fi on the screens except for B-rated movies and horror stuff and then Star Wars came out. It was more different from anything else than you can immagine.

Imagine what the prequel trilogy might have been like if the original crawl had stayed?

It's interesting that in the deleted scene with Biggs at Toshi's how Lucas originally had the Empire taking a rather Communist slant, with talk of its nationalising industries.
